More blessed to give

It has been a while since I’ve written a post on my website. I’ve been busy and I usually only post when I have something new to share or a revelation. Today’s subject is based on a revelation I received this morning, no doubt from scripture I read several days past.

“And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he said, ‘It is more blessed to give than receive.’ ” Acts 20:35 NKJV

Often times we think of sharing gifts for Christmas, birthdays or other events that we often honor someone with a gift. At least most times those have been my thoughts. But Jesus was, I believe, speaking of giving to someone in need. That it is far better to be able to help the person in need and do it than to be the person in need of something, at the hands of others.

No matter how desperate times become in our lives we are most of the time better off than many. Yesterday I saw a man who looked down on his luck, like he could surely use a hand, only he wasn’t seeking a hand up, he was ringing a bell seeking donations for others. Surely, he was more blessed than those he was helping, at least in his own eyes. Kind of like the woman who only had two small copper coins to give.

I’m sad to say that this year I’ve been a little overwhelmed by all the different groups looking for donations, seemingly everywhere I’ve gone. I’m not going to bang a drum or sound a horn on whether or not I gave, Jesus knows. But I will say my attitude became contaminated, disheartened to be asked for so many donations, just to go to the grocery store.

Looking back now I can imagine how it was in the days of knights and royalty. Like when Peter went to the temple only to be asked for alms. It’s not how much you give, but out of what you have will you give? Like the lady with two small copper coins, it’s the condition of your gift, your heart that matters.

The next time the cashier asks will I round up my change, or I see a bell ringer I’m going to make sure that whether it’s two small copper coins or not my heart is right. I am more blessed than the person on chem, or the woman with a flow of blood. I’ve been given the chance to be healthy to give to those that aren’t as fortunate. In the words given by Jesus, I am more blessed, thankful to be given the chance to give, to be a giver instead of being the needy.

This Christmas let’s give all we can, and if that’s just love, like the man ringing the bell, let’s give it with all our hearts. We have much to be thankful for, Merry Christmas!
